Serie A Italy

In the first decade of the twentieth century, Italian football was divided into regional groups, with the FIGC taking the lead. There were several interregional divisions from 1922 to 1929, and many of these were merged into a single league. In the 1930s, the second highest division, known as Serie B, was introduced. During the Fascist era, the Italian government banned the participation of foreigners in football leagues. In part, this was counteracted by importing Italian ancestry from South America. In 1964, the FIGC was replaced by Lega Calcio, and the Serie A division was renamed Lega Calcio.

Today, Serie A Italy boasts three of the world’s most famous clubs, Juventus, AC Milan, and Internazionale. These teams are also founding members of the G-14, which represents the largest football clubs in Europe. Serie A also has the distinction of having the most Ballon d’Or winners, with more than a dozen players earning the honour. However, the number of Ballon d’Or winners in the Serie A is only second to La Liga.

The Serie A season runs from August to May, with each club playing each other twice – once at home and once away – over the course of the season. In all, there are 38 games played, and the team with the most points wins the Scudetto. It is important to note, however, that Italian football uses a true round-robin format, with each team playing every other team twice during the season. Home and away matches are played on Saturdays and Tuesdays, and midweek matches are only played intermittently. In addition, the first half of the season is called the andata, with nine games played on Wednesdays and the last fixture on Thursday.
